英语习语大扫盲，分享一些常用的英语习语

看美剧时经常听到剧中人物说出一些令人耳目一新 短语，如果不看字幕还真不知道是什么意思。尤其是当他们引用俚语习语时，不了解他们的文化背景就会听得一愣一愣的。以下罗列以下美剧中常见的习语，看看你都知道几个？

To have a cast iron stomach – to have no problems eating or drinking anything.

有个铁胃——吃、喝任何东西都没问题。

Eg：Sam seems to have a cast iron stomach,as he’s already eaten all the food..

Sam看起来就像有个铁胃一样，吃了那么多东西都没事。

To drink like a fish–to drink heavily.

像鱼一样能喝——海量

Eg：he is drinking like a fish!

他一直在不停地喝。

The lights are on but nobody’s home – used to describe a stupid person.

灯亮着却没人在家——用于描述很愚蠢的人。

Example: Tom really has no any clue about how settle this problem - the lights are on but nobody’s home!

例子：Tom完全不知道要如何解决这件事——脑子笨的像头猪。

When pigs fly–about something that will never happen.

除非猪都会飞了——表示某事永远都不会发生，绝无可能。

Example: Yeah, right! You will get Taylor Swift to ask you on a date when pigs fly!

对的!等猪都会飞了你就会得到泰勒.斯威夫特的约会邀请。

To have Van Gogh’s ear for music–to be tone deaf .(Van Gogh only had one ear!)

用梵高的耳朵听音乐——音痴。(梵高只有一只耳朵!)

Example: you really couldn’t be a singer,as you has Van Gogh’s ear for music.

例子：你当不了一个歌手了，因为你简直就是个音痴。

To pig out – to eat a lot very quickly.

狼吞虎咽——快速吃掉很多东西。

Example: he looks really very hungary,as he has pig out at the dinner buffet for hours.

他看起来真的很饿的样子，瞧他已经这宴会上吃了好几个钟了。

Everything but the kitchen sink–almost everything has been included.

除了厨房里的水槽什么都有——几乎包括了所有事。

Example:  to prove that she’s right,  Mary has been throwing out everything but the kitchen sink!

为了证明她是正确的，玛利亚几乎把所有的事都说了个遍。

To put a sock in it–to tell someone noisy to be quiet.

放只袜子在里面——告诉某个很吵的人保持安静。

Example: the baby is sleeping, please put a sock in it.

婴孩还在睡觉呢，请安静点。

Use your loaf – use your head, think smart.

用你的面包——动动脑子，仔细想想。

Example:  if you take a good use of your loaf!  you should have solved this problem!

但凡你动了脑子，你就能解决问题了

以上这些常用英语习语你能记住吗。其实英语中的习语或是俚语只有多去积累和记忆才能真正了解它的意义。不然光看字面意思绝对会误解的，因为这其中都是有典故有根源并不是凭空而来的。而一个习语背后都包含了英语文化和特定的文化背景，如果没有了解这些背景，就很难真正学好英语。
